MPI Announces Auckland Fruit Fly 2015 Response Closure

Fruit fly is gone – thank you Auckland

With your support, the Queensland fruit fly is no longer residing in Auckland. That means there are no longer any restrictions on moving fruit and vegetables within Auckland.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we went about this important work. If this pest hadn’t been contained and killed, it could have severely damaged our horticultural industry and home gardens.

We’ll still be keeping a routine eye out for this pest using fruit fly traps. In the very unlikely event you find maggots in fruit, please contact our Freephone 0800 80 99 66.

Once again thank you for your support. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Export Restriction Zones (ERZ) will also be removed for all markets (except Korea). Therefore, as at 2 pm today:

  • QFF 2015 MPI Pre-approved procedures will not be required; and
  • Declaration under the Observations field in the ePhyto system will not be required.

(NB. Korea has recently requested MPI’s confirmation of eradication before formally agreeing to remove the Additional Declarations for QFF host material being exported through the ERZ.  We hope this will be quick administrative process. Exporters need to stay in touch with their Independent Verification Agencies (IVAs) to confirm conditions of exports to Korea through ERZ.)
