Welcome to the first edition of our Technical Advisory Group's Food Safety Updates. This update covers the release of MPI's Draft Food Safety Strategy.

MPI's Food Safety Draft Strategy Consultation

New Zealand Food Safety has released a draft strategy consultation document.

Paula Dudley, General Manager and Anne-Marie Arts, Food Safety Representative from United Fresh attended a presentation on the strategy in August.

This high level document outlines the four main strategic priorities for the agency:

  1. To ensure New Zealand's world-class food safety system remains robust in responding to future challenges.
  2. To proactively support consumers to feel confident making choices about food.
  3. To lead new thinking in international forums to expand our international influence.
  4. To be an intelligence-led business that proactively prepares for the future.

Consultation workshops are being held around the country.

United Fresh supports the strategic approach which addresses the main issues we face as a food producing and exporting nation.

It covers a balance between its international commitments and obligations as well as protecting consumers

Further details, including the consultation workshops to be held around the country can be found here.
