WiH Building Confidence Workshop a Success and Girls who Grow On Farm Lunch & Learn Experience

Women in Horticulture Building Confidence Workshop

On 12th October we held our Women in Horticulture (WiH) workshop: Building Confidence to Thrive in Horticulture, at Zespri International in Mt Maunganui.

Over 40 people attended the workshop, facilitated by Loshni Manikam of Thriving Farming Women and MC’ed by WiH Executive Committee member, Jen Scoular.

During the two-hour event, Loshni worked with the group to define confidence and to recognise that in order to build confidence we need to have a clear, compelling reason to do so. Her practical ways to start building confidence were entertaining and inspiring.

“Confidence isn’t about learning new skills, it’s about becoming aware of the good stuff you already have”, says Loshni.

The workshop was sponsored by the MG Trust.

Dependant on funding we are looking to hold more regional workshops in 2024 and a national event to bring women in our industry together from every corner of Aotearoa. We will share more about our plans for 2024 soon.

Girls who Grow – On Farm Lunch and Learn Experience

WiH partnered with Girls who Grow to sponsor two students to attend the On Farm Lunch and Learn Experience in Otago this month.

This initiative saw 30 year-10 students from Wakatipu, Mt Aspiring and Dunstan Colleges welcomed onto local farms to engage with farmers/growers.

Girls who Grow are reshaping learning experiences for college students by connecting them back to the land through meaningful experiences to enhance their learning and support the engagement in their education. With 45.6% of school students not attending school regularly in New Zealand this can be part of the solution to keep students engaged and interested in continuous and diverse learning.
